Two people have been killed, reports Helsinki newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, after police used a firearm to stop a knifeman during an attack in the city of Turku, in the southwest of Finland. A manhunt is underway as police search for what they described as “more perpetrators” in the city, suggesting there may have been a brawl or even mass attack.

Former Breitbart executive Steve Bannon is the latest casualty of White House power struggles. US President Donald Trump’s chief strategist has departed at the urging of the chief of staff, retired General John Kelly. Kelly and Bannon “have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. “We are grateful for his service and wish him the best.”

The first video of the ramming attack which killed 14 people and injured more than 100 others in Barcelona on Thursday has surfaced online. A CCTV camera inside a museum in Las Ramblas caught the van plowing through the crowded street. The footage was taken by anindoor camera at a local erotic museum, and overlooked a window facing Las Ramblas.

The federal case against Imran Awan, a former IT aide for Democratic Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, expanded Thursday with an indictment on four counts including conspiracy and making false statements. He originally was charged with a single bank fraud count; his wife Hina Alvi also was indicted Thursday. The grand jury decision in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia comes roughly a month after Awan was arrested at Dulles airport in Virginia trying to board a plane to Pakistan, where his family is from.

An explosion Wednesday night in Alcanar Platja is believed to be linked to the Las Ramblas attack in Barcelona, regional authorities have said. Initially, police presumed it was a gas leak that caused the destruction of a house that led to at least one death and several injuries. At least one person died and another six were injured in the explosion at around 11.15pm Wednesday night in the village of Alcanar Platja in southern Catalonia.

Two psychologists, James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen, who were contracted by the CIA to develop torture techniques, agreed to a confidential settlement with torture survivors. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) sued Mitchell and Jessen on behalf of Suleiman Abdullah Salim, Mohamed Ahmed Ben Soud, and the family of Gul Rahman. The lawsuit alleged the CIA contractors committed crimes that included water torture, forcing prisoners into boxes, and chaining prisoners in painful stress positions to walls.

The Berkeley area teacher who pummeled a white nationalist last year, and just recently was arrested on assault charges for that attack, is claiming that “standing up to fascism is not a crime.” By Any Means Necessary’s Yvette Felarca, who teaches in the Berkeley Unified School District, said at her arraignment that “Standing up against the rise of Nazism […] in this country is not a crime,” and added “We have the right to defend ourselves.”
